Update 12.10.99 900mhz_fone.html
I recently picked up a new scanner, these things are great fun. I had a radio shack PRO-71...It was cheap, and covered most of the stuff I want (mostly cheap). My new one is a radio shack pro-90...much nicer...300 channels per second scan rate, makes finding stuff much quicker...it has 900 mhz coverage...oh, those 900 mhz cord less phones...1 mile range (YES!)...that kicks so much ass it hurts sometimes...too bad most of them are encrypted...and it's not the cheesy wave inversion that 46 mhz cord less use, it's really encrypted, or more so just a digital stream...the 900 mhz can handle it...much better freq to run on...One of the most useful features of a scanner is the ability to listen to your neighbors phone calls. The freqs for this are,
46.610 49.670 46.630 49.845 46.670 49.860 46.710 49.770 46.730 49.875 46.770 49.830 46.830 49.890 46.870 49.930 46.930 49.990 46.970 46.970if you want to listen to 900 mhz ones, scan from 900mhz to 926mhz...the mouthpiece is on the low band, and the earpeice is on the high band, and they are paired...their's like 66 channels on them, so programming them in is pretty pointless...unless you are like me, and have 300 channels on your scanner...damn I need more...Unfortunately, my scanner has cell phones blocked out...heh...not hard to fix that, but it's 'ileagle'...those are pretty entertaining too, but their is exactly 666 channels that cell phones operate on, and they are also paired, so listening to them is a HUGE pain in the ass...so I don't even bother, unless REALLY bored...
Though, as a note of interest, they can still be listened to with my scanner...at least ghost images of them anyway...it works, but isn't very clear (since I have triple conversion that actively tries to help me out by stopping images from being noticed). But it does work
These freqs can be useful, and entertaining. And, to boot, it's perfectly legal to listen to the stuff. As long as you never actually tell anybody what you heard. But, that's not important, it should mostly be used for a source of entertainment. Also, listening to baby monitors can be fun...You can wake up at 3:00am when the little brat does, or if you are lucky, you can hear the parents/kids/whatever talking in the room. The freqs for that are,
049.3000 049.8300 049.8450 049.8600 049.8750 049.8900
I recommend, if you haven't already done this, grab a copy of 'police call' from rat shack. It has the freqs for local police/fire/and much much more. It's only 12$, so not a big deal.
One of the other uses for a scanner, is to listen to the police, and see what they actually do for a living. It's amazing how much shit they have to put up with. It raises the respect for them. Also, as an added bonus, if you run your scanner in your car (1), and a cop is behind you, you can hear him run your plates just before he pulls you over. Not that this helps, but it's kina nice, plus, if you are brave enough to listen while he runs your drivers license, and such, you can hear what they have on you, and why you where pulled over. Note, it's generally a good idea to ditch the scanner under the seat, or something before the cop pulls you over.
You can also hear stuff happening at McDonald's, burger king, and lots of other fast food restaurants...search the net for that shit.
If you have a cheap scanner that doesn't cover the 800-900 mhz range, and you still want to listen to cells, you can park right by your local cell tower, and scan the high uhf range, you will pick up images of the original...not the best quality, but it works pretty well...
