1.0 INTRODUCTION

     Hello, and welcome to the Hentai Anime FAQ. If you are new to Hentai, this FAQ should help you immensely. If you are a bit more experienced in the world of H-Anime, maybe it won't help as much, but maybe it can clear up some stuff for you.
      As for myself, I was introduced to H-Anime a few years ago, courtesy of a friend of mine who sent me an H picture of Sailormercury. I quickly developed an H fetish, and have become a great fan of all things Hentai.
      I have developed this FAQ to help people learn about this fetish. I enjoy it, and I know many others who do, too. Sadly, the *good* hentai resources are few and far between, so developing a hentai fetish is much more difficult than it at first seems.
      With that, I leave you to the FAQ. I hope you enjoy what I have written. Please read the Afterward for information on contacting me and making suggestions about this FAQ.

2.0 WHAT IS HENTAI?

      Hentai is basically Japanese Animation porn or erotica. It is a sexual fetish, and is a type of erotic art. There are many different types of Hentai, and they encompass all fetishes from lesbianism to beastiality to tentacle-sex. There are also Hentai stories, (commonly called "Lemons"), to be found on the WWW, and these Lemons almost exclusively involve characters from Anime shows and movies.
      Hentai's most distinguishing characteristic is that it is, basically, anime, or Japanimation. If you don't know what Japanimation is, and aren't familiar with it, Hentai is no more than an erotic cartoon where the characters have huge eyes. If you *are* familiar with anime, you will notice that many Hentai pics use characters from your favourite animes, rather than original characters. Some common series that Hentai is drawn from include Sailormoon, Tenchi Muyo, Ranma Nibunnoichi, and, now, Neon Genesis Evangerion and Final Fantasy VII.
      There is a last definition of Hentai that you may be familiar with; its literal Japanese meaning. "Hentai" means "pervert". If someone calls themselves a "Hentai" all that means is that they are a perv. Calling yourself a "Hentai" also implies that you are involved with Hentai anime, not just a pervert in general.

2.1 HENTAI VS. "NORMAL ANIME"

      So, what seperates true Hentai from those common panty shots and nudity that you see in almost any anime? Well, not much, really. Panty shots and nudity, in normal anime, are there for a momentary thrill, or because it would be unrealistic not to have them. Also, Japanese animation is much more friendly to animated nudity than American animation is, so nudity isn't uncommon.
      The main difference between Hentai and normal anime is in intent and mood. In any anime, a character might suggestively bend over and show her cleavage, but in Hentai anime, she's *always* doing that. A character may get blasted by an explosion and show a flash of panty, but that's only normal. It's only a cheap thrill. You can tell Hentai anime the same way you can tell erotic movies from normal movies. If the sex is continual, and the plot seems to be based around sexual activity, then it's probably Hentai. If there's occasional nudity, and maybe a bit of sexual tension, it's probably normal, however, if you're lucky, you might have stumbled onto something ecchi...(hehe!)

2.2 HENTAI VS. "ECCHI"

      First off, many people would say that there is no difference. Others would say that the difference is great. For sake of clarification, I'm going to support the "very different" theory.
      To start, "Ecchi" is the letter "H", (for "Hentai"), pronounced out loud in Japanese. The words mean the same, but there is a very definate difference between Hentai and Ecchi. Generally, Hentai refers to anime nudity, sex, hardcore or softcore porn, movies, and etc. Ecchi, on the other hand, is composed of things such as panty shots, partial nudity, lingerie, bunny suits, etc. The difference is that in "Hentai" you can see all, know all. "Ecchi" is more provacative and suggestive, and bridges the gap between Hentai and normal anime. Ecchi also tends to be sexual, overtly so, but still not have sex as the main focus. A good example of Ecchi is the movie, "Miyuki-chan in Wonderland", which is done by the female animation group CLAMP.

2.3 HENTAI VS. "EROTIC ART"

      Hentai isn't always erotic art, and erotic art isn't always Hentai. Hentai refers specifically to art work of the anime style; erotic art, on the other hand, could be anything. Since Hentai also refers to movies, lemons, and a general label for people who purvey that stuff, it is very far removed from erotic art. Keep in mind the difference when you're looking for Hentai on the WWW. Searching for "Erotic Art" sometimes won't turn up any Hentai at all.

3.0 H-ANIME FOR THE NEWBIE

     This is the section for the person who knows what Hentai is, but doesn't know much about it. This section will help you learn the slang used with Hentai, and the etiquette and other neccessities involved in gathering Hentai and enjoying it.

3.1 H-ANIME SLANG

This is as alphabetical as I could get it.

3.2 H-ANIME ETIQUETTE

      How many times has someone asked me "Are you trading Hentai?" or flooded the newsgroups with spam about their new Hentai website? They request things, but offer nothing in return, or they just get annoying by bugging you about this, that, or the other thing.
      But I digress. There are several rules that you, as a newbie Hentai should follow, and I suggest you do so, unless you want people getting upset with you and ignoring you. Here's a partial list, and you'll learn more as you grow as a Hentai, and you won't need a few of them, as you become more of a Hentai.

4.0 H-ANIME ODDITIES

      There are many difference between anime and normal erotic art. Some of them are stranger than others. Many of them are exclusive only to Hentai. These are just the most notable.

4.1 PUBIC HAIR

      In case you haven't noticed, this is one of those things that is lacking in Hentai and in anime in general. You will only very rarely see a character with pubic hair. Or any hair other than head hair, for that matter. Why? Easy. Once upon a time, there was a law passed that declared that pubic hair was indecent in any form of erotic art in Japan. This law has since been revoked, but as a sort of homage to that type of thinking, very few anime artists draw characters with pubic hair.

4.2 MISSING PARTS

      Hentai artists seem to have no problem whatsoever removing parts of a character's anatomy for artistic purposes. In fact, it is designed to make a picture more erotic, in many cases. The most common use of this is when a character is either going down on, or giving a tit fuck to another character. In this case, the penis is often made invisible, although the rest of the picture is as thought it was there. It kind of makes it more erotic in some cases; sometimes it is more arousing to see the facial expression and mouth of a girl instead of her boyfriend's dick in her mouth.

4.3 TRANSPARENT DRAWING

      Unlike the above, where a bodily part is left out entirely, this one leaves it in, just makes it transparent. Perhaps the most common use of this is when a leg or an arm obscures a sexual action. In that case, the action is drawn in, and the outline of the arm drawn over it. Sometimes the obscured body part is made fuzzy, or the lines made thicker or skinnier to show that it is obscured.

4.4 NOSEBLEEDS

      Every once in a while, a character will look at another character, and his nose will bleed. This is common not only in hentai, but in regular anime as well. All the nosebleed means is that the character is aroused. When the character is aroused, his nose bleeds. Sometimes you see girls' noses bleeding, but not as often.

5.0 H-ANIME FETISHES

      Hentai represents all fetishes, but there are some that are more likely to be found in a hentai anime than others.

5.1 PANTY SHOTS

      This is unbelievably common. A girl with her skirt moved so you can see her panties, which are normally white cotton that cling to her unbelievably. A variation of this is a girl standing in a lake in a t-shirt and panties, soaked so the white of the panties is semi-transparent. Always fun.

5.2 TENTACLES

      This is also scarily common. It is tentacle-sex. A demon with many tentacles, (or, sometimes, a plant with tentacles), ties up a female character with a few tentacles and ravishes her with the others. Unfortunetly, many of these are censored, (-_-);, so we don't get to see anything. The ones that aren't censored are good, though. For movies on this subject, I'd suggest La Blue Girl, Rei Rei, and Urotsukidoji.

5.3 ANIMAL SUITS

      Animal suits, particularly bunnies, (as in the playboy ones), have been rather common forever, but they seem even more so in H-Anime. It is not uncommon for a character to have paws, tails, ears, etc. Sometimes these accessories are pieces of clothing, in other cases, they appear to be actually part of the character. These suits are a definate fetish, and oh so cute!! (^_^)!

5.4 YAOI

      Yaoi is just a fancy name for male/male gay Hentai. It is closely linked to "bishonen" (pretty boy) anime and manga, and, although not all pictures are bishonen related, the vast majourity seems to be.

5.5 COWGIRLS

      Cowgirls, which could accurately go under ANIMAL SUITS, are a product of the big breast hentai fetishists. These cowgirls often lactate like crazy, and very rarely have only two breasts. More commonly, they have six or eight HUGE breasts, with distended nipples, and very skimpy clothing.

5.6 TAREME

      Tareme, meaning "droopy eyes" is a style of H-Anime in which the edges of the eyes are dropped drastically. The characters often look sad and innocent, regardless of what else they are doing. Innocence seems to be a big thing with Tareme, and the characters are normally in appearence, about ten years old. In some cases, they obviously aren't, but not always. It's still a beautiful style, though.

5.7 BODILY FLUIDS

      One thing you'll notice about H-Anime characters, is that when they get arouse, they drip. And boy do they. The more fluid in a picture, the better. Lactation, cum, girl-cum, anything an artist can shove in a picture that emits liquid, they will. Kind of fun but kind of sick, though.

5.8 OTHER

      There are lots of other fetishes, since H-Anime represents *every* fetish, but another one I should mention is girls in bottles. I've seen abuot 4 or 5 of these pictures, and they're supposed to be a sexual fetish. It normally consists of an H-Anime girl in a wine glass, bottle, jar, etc. Cute, huh?

6.0 H-ANIME CENSORSHIP

      I get a lot of questions about censorship, and I'm gonna answer them once and for all. The pictures are censored by a Japanese law stating that articles uploaded to the WWW cannot be hard core unless censored. To avoid this law, many hard core pictures are uploaded solely to FTP, which is very difficult to find. However, in order to avoid getting nabbed by this law, a lot of anime artists censor *all* their pictures, even the soft core ones.
      Not all pictures are censored like this. Some of them are censored by unknowns, who take a picture, mosaic out the interesting parts, and re-upload it. These people are the people we don't like too terribly much. But that's another matter altogether.

6.1 UNCENSORING CENSORED H-PICS

      In some cases, it is possible to uncensor hentai images. This process includes a number of different methods.

7.0 H-ANIME DOUJINSHI/MANGA

      Doujinshi is one of those really common things. Three quarters of the Hentai manga you see online or anywhere is doujinshi.
      Doujinshi is essentially fan art. A fan takes some characters, draws a hentai story of them, and publishes them. Of course, it is very difficult to get this done in America, so it is more common in Japan. An interesting thing to note is, while it would violate copyright laws in America, it doesn't in Japan, just so long as credit is given to the creators of the original characters.
      We could never get away with that here....

8.0 H-ANIME GAMES

      Hentai games are lots of fun. They can be purchased from some places, or downloaded illegally from the WWW at others. Most of them are done from a first person view, and your character is male. The screen is normally split up into two parts, one, at the top, contains an anime picture showing the action, and a smaller screen at the bottom provides you with text. Sometimes there is a menu at the side that you use to navigate through the game. The purpose of the game varies from game to game, but you can be certain that it will have lots of sex.
      Most H-Anime series, (mystic, arebes, marble, etc) come from these games.

8.1 H-ANIME KISS DOLLS

      A KiSS doll is an interesting Japanese game. It allows you to take a viewing program, and load into this program a variety of paper dolls. These paper dolls can be electronically dressed and undressed, and many are animated or interactive. Mostly based on anime characters, this is a fairly popular game with all otaku. Now, like all genres that attract otaku, this one attracts the hentai, too. If you want to play with, undress, and interact with some beautiful anime girls, start out at the Otakuworld page, at http://www.otakuworld.com/. From this page, you can access the largest KiSS archive on the WWW, and download viewers and some dolls to play with. Otakuworld does maintain a selection of hentai dolls, but not too many. For strictly hentai dolls, you'll have to go to http://www.kawaii.com, which maintains a large variety of hentai KiSS dolls.

9.0 H-ANIME MOVIES

     There are quite a few H-Anime movies in America, available either subtitled or dubbed, and many of them are very good. Screen captures from some of the more popular ones, and sometimes video clips and animated GIFs are available all over the place. These give people a good idea of what these H-Anime movies are about, but some of them are only available in Japan. For the American Hentai, there is less available. Check in the anime or sci-fi section of your local video store for any Hentai. The Hentai is normally not seperated from the normal stuff.

9.1 H-ANIME MOVIE CENSORSHIP

     Just like with H-Anime pictures, some are censored, some are not. As a partial rule, the dubbed version of an H-Anime movie seems to be more censored than a subtitled version, possibly because of the wider appeal of an English language version. Censorship normally comes in the form of cut scenes. A scene showing penetration will be cut out, or a scene will be switched with another one. It is normally easy to tell cut scenes just by looking. If the action seems jumpy, uncertain, or not very hardcore, it probably was cut.
     Another, more dubious form of censorship, is called either "dimming" or "mosaic". During a scene showing penetration or very explicit sexual action, part of the screen will be dimmed to black, obscuring what's going on onscreen. This is done somewhere between Japan and America, since the Japanese versions have none of this. It is done normally on dubbed version of movies, and normally on older ones. Newer ones seem to be lacking this. For an example, pick up the dubbed version of "Urotsukidoji : Legend of the Overfiend", or the subbed versions of "Adventure Kid", both by Anime18.

9.2 H-ANIME MOVIES IN AMERICA

     I'm taking a great risk with this section, as there are many people who know much more about anime movies than I do, but it's worth a try. This is a partial list, (in alphabetical order), of hentai movies that are available in the United States. Due to space and the fact that I don't know all the information, I'm not going to include the people who make these animes, but know that a great deal of the dubbed stuff comes from ANIME 18.
If you have an anime not listed here, PLEASE send me a brief description of it, the name, and the number of volumes of it. Some of the things listed, I don't know everything about. Keep that in mind, just remember that it is only a *partial* listing. Maybe someday it will be complete, but no time soon. IF you see a question mark next to something, it means I'm not sure. 10.0 H-ANIME AVAILIBILITY

      H-Anime is readily available on the Internet. Unfortunetly, most of it is in pay sites or Adult Check protected sites. For those of us who don't want to spend money to get their porn, these sites are really bad. They also normally cater to the "normal" fetishes; bondage; all-out sex; candle wax; etc, etc, not the more specialized H-Anime fetishes.
      However, if you know where to look, H-Anime is decently easy to get. Some people maintain completely, (all the way, NO passwords), free sites, but don't advertise them. They do this so they won't get shut down by their server, or get swamped with "smut" complaints. Other people may run mailing lists to distribute free Hentai, or might be willing to trade Hentai with you if you ask. Of course, the problem here is that you have to have something to trade.
      Another good source of Hentai, games, and other stuff are the newsgroups. The newsgroups are very helpful, even if only because some people advertise their site *only* on the groups. (Of course, the matter of sorting through all the spam to find the good stuff is almost impossible, but sometimes you get lucky).

11.0 H-ANIME RESOURCES

      Right now, there are only a few things I would quote as "resources" for H-Anime. As a shameless plug, I will call this FAQ a resource, but other resources are much less specific.
      One good resource is the Anime Web Turnpike, whose page is located at : http//www.anipike.com/ . They provide links to Hentai sites all over the WWW, all though some of them don't work.
      Also, there is the Hentai Search site, located at : http://www.kawaii.com/search/ . They have an extensive list of links, all searchable and catagorised.       Another good resouce are the newsgroups. They have their own section, which follows.
      Other good stuff is the Sakura Lemon Fan Fic site at : http://anime.muck.com/~sakura/ , which deals specifically in H-Anime stories, from all series, from all authors.

12.0 H-ANIME NEWSGROUPS

      Newsgroups are a way of sending all sorts of things throughout the internet, without the use of the WWW. It is completely text-based, and has its own protocols, programs, and file formats.
      I can't help you yet with learning how to use a newsgroup reader, because I don't know that much myself. However, many resources are available on the WWW, and many newsgroups have FAQs dealing with the more intricate parts of newsgroup work.

12.1 FILE DISTRIBUTION OVER NEWSGROUPS

      There are two things you will probably notice when you first encounter newsgroups. One, the sheer amount of junk that's on most of them, courtesy of spammers, and Two, when a file is enclosed in a post, it appears as gibberish. This is called binary file distribution, and is what gives name to the "binaries" newsgroups, which are designed with binary distribution in mind.
      Binary files are a complex way of representing images, programs, or sound files through text. Because they are distributed in such a different way, you need to know how to recognize and decode the two basic types, which are MIME and UUE. MIME files can contain more than one image, program, or sound, and are usually identified with a file extension of MIM or MME. UUE files, however, are only allowed to carry one file. They always have the extension UUE.

12.2 FILE TYPES (MIME AND UUE)

      If you want to download a picture from a newsgroup, you will have to know it's file type. All newsgroup pictures are posted in UUE or MIME format, normally UUE. In order to download these, you need a MIME or UUE decoder. Winzip will decode UUE, but you need a special program to decode MIME. I can't suggest any good programs for you, but look around and you will probably find one.
      Now, in order to decode these files, first, find out what type it is. If it says :

or something similar, on the top, then it is a MIME file. Copy everything from that line down. Then, paste this gibberish into a file editor, such as windows write, being certain to not convert it into any other file if you are asked. Now, save the file as "filename.mim". Open up the converter, and have it open that file. It should convert it to what it was supposed to be.
      To decode a UUE file, you must first discern it from a MIME file. To do this, look at the top lines. You will normally find something like this :
      begin 644 Filename.type
      Following this will be several lines of code, and at the end, you will find, logically, the word "end".       UUE is easier to decode than MIME, because WinZip will decode it. Simply save the text from the "begin" point to the "end" point as "filename.uue". Open up WinZip and set it to open encoded files. Then just open up the files. I personally like UUE more than MIME, but with MIME you can encode more than one file, and it's easier, in some cases, to post.
      It's very confusing, and very inconvenient, but now, some newsgroup programs automatically decode files for you.

12.3 FILES IN MULTIPLE PARTS

      Often, while on the newsgroups, you may see a subject header like this :
      "Sailorvenus pic vens9601.jpg [01/02]"
      The next subject header will probably say something like :
      "Sailorvenus pic vens9601.jpg [02/02]"
      Now, what this means is that the picture comes in two chunks. The reason for this is because certain newsservers only allow people to post a certain amount of information at a time, and pictures and binaries often exceed that limit.       Now, decoding these things are a real pain. First, open up the post. You should get a lot of gibberish. Determine whether it is a MME or a UUE file, and then select all of it. Take the selected text, and paste it into a text-based word program, like Notepad, if the file isn't too large. If the file is too large for Notepad, paste it into Wordpad, and SAVE AS "whatever.mme" or "whatever.uue", and when it prompts you for a format, choose "Text Document".
      Next, open up the second part of the file, and select all of the gibberish, and paste it onto the end of the first part. Save this. Now, you have a complete binary document. Run it through a converter, and you should be A-OK.

13.0 OTHER H-ANIME STUFF

13.1 WHY ARE SO MANY H-ANIME SITES INACCESSIBLE?

      A reason for this is simple, many of them are on web servers that don't allow porn or erotica on their servers. Good examples are Geocities and Tripod, who don't screen their members, and, as a result, end up with many Hentai pages that are only up for a month or so, tops.

13.2 WHAT IS AN AVS?

      AVS is an abbreviation for "Adult Verification System". It is a password that protects an "adult" site, and you need to pay money to the AVS company to get a password. Basically, the idea is, if you can pay enough money to get one, you must be an adult. Prices range from $4.95 to $25 a month, or up to $60 for a lifetime membership. By paying for one AVS ID, you gain access to all the sites that are blocked by that AVS. The most common AVS system, and probably the "best" is Adult Check.

13.3 WHERE CAN I GET AN AVS PASSWORD?

      First, it depends on the AVS system. Some systems are relatively unprotected, and a password can be used repeatedly by multiple users. However, some, like Adult Check, link the password and ID to a specific users computer. When more than one computer is found using the same ID, Adult check automatically voids the password. That is why, if you have one, you shouldn't give it out, and why most people aren't likely to give you theirs.
      Your best, (and most legal), option is to just purchase one yourself, if you really must access protected sites. Keep in mind that much of the material from protected sites can be found elsewhere on the WWW, you just need to search.

13.4 ARE THERE ANY GOOD H-ANIME SITES ON THE WWW?

      Probably, but I haven't been paid to endorse them yet. ^_^
      Actually, if there's a good site that's been up for a long time, and isn't a pay or password site at all, contact me and I'll drop your name into the FAQ. I have no problems doing that.

13.5 WHAT ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH ARE PNG FILES?

      PNG files are a type of image file, more or less exclusive to Japan. They have a very high compression ratio, and are essentially like GIFs or JPEGs. In order to open a PNG file, you need to have a PNG viewer or converter. You can get these on the WWW, or, if you're on AOL, using the Software Libraries. For the most part, however, PNG files aren't too important, because they aren't used very often, but sometimes the best pics are in PNG form, and you want to be able to view them when you find them.

13.6 WHAT THE **** ARE ECC FILES?

      ECC files are files that contain a small amount of animation. It could be a character blinking, or a tentacle squirming, or something to that effect. People normally post an ECC viewer on newsgroups at the same time as ECC pictures. ECC, is, of course, short for ECCHI.

14.0 AFTERWARD

14.1 AUTHOR'S FINAL NOTES

      This FAQ was fun to write. The original was written over a period of two weeks, and has since gained a bit of popularity online, and has been distributed through a bunch of hentai newsgroups and three or four internet sites. I hope to add to it as often as new information crops up. I have been involved in hentai for a long time, and the newsgroups especially.
      Also, a final ramble is neccessary. All internet porn should be free. If you didn't draw it, you shouldn't charge for it. Challenge the ISPs, and support free speech by making your own free H-Anime page. No Adult Check, no passwords. Have sponsers if you must, but at least keep it free.
