I finished my duity for the day. The duity that matters anyway. I went to a clients house, and gave him a hand since he was in such need. This is the same guy who's house I went to last.
He couldn't login due to having his email address, and lots of spaces in the username field. This was quickly fixed. Then I turned off virtual memory, and things are much better. The computer is even twice as fast now!
Though I do hope he doesn't try to open too many programs at once. That would be bad :) He's got 20 megs of ram, and an old 68k mac. It should be fine. Bloody system 7 doesn't handle virtual memory very well at all (hmm, none of the classic OS's do).
That didn't take nearly as long as I had expected. Now I must wait for don. he'll be here eventualy. In an hour or so I'll go to the other coffeeshop, and check my mail.
Three dollars an hour for internet is pretty steep, but it's a lot easyer than driving to the other side of town. Too bad I wouldn't be able to send my updated address info. I've also verified it. When I say I've verified it, I mean it. I didn't just ask where he lived. I went to his house.

I'm still getting usto OSX. I do love it, it's an anime platform ;) If only I could make it boot faster I'd be happy for now. Danm three minuite boot.
I had it crash on me last night, Actualy it didn't crash so much. But IE did. It just decided to take up all the ram it could, and blew the system away. Almost like a fork death.
Want to fork a machine to death? It's easy.
In your favorite text editor create a file that contains the following, and make it +x.
forkdeath& forkdeath&
Then run ./forkdeath. Nothing to it, you will kill most any unix box within a few seconds.
That is unless your sysadmin has half a brain, and limits the number of processes an owner can have. Then it's just annoying...
It's silly how much CPU time the interface of OSX takes up. Quite insane. It's enough to make my G3 burp a bit when playing mp3 files. Heh, if only iTunes didn't use quicktime for audio playback.
The file system of OSX is very, very strange. /home is /Users, thier is no /usr/local, and then the kicker. It's not case sensitive! Though it does preserve the case of files that you open. Sometimes it acts like it cares, but when you try a little harder it doesn't.
Oh, and resource forks are now a thing of the past. While they where a very cool idea, there where far too many problems. Now it's just flat files. Hmm, sorta.
A native OSX application is actualy an entire directory tree. In the finder you see Mail. But what's realy there is totaly diffrent.

What's this? Yep, it's basicly a resource fork, but without one. Your programs aren't so much one file, but lots, and lots of little ones. IMHO it's a waste of disk space.
Also, there are many xml files that make up the actual program (probably some binary too, but I haven't found any yet). Quite interesting.
Hard to belive they finaly got it rolling. Heh. Oh, I'm drinking some more green shit today. All that I know is that it's minty.
I'm here for three main reasons.
1. I might meet lyndsey again.
2. Wait for don.
3. I don't want to drive home.
This is file 386. Danm that's a lot of entrys. I remember when I got excited at 250 files. Now I'm much, much farther along. That's almost three megs of text that I've written!
I keep saying that I'm going to write a book. Looks like I already have several times over. Now if only I could have it all make sence. Maby it does? It does to me anyway, but I'm just strange.
Again I need more ideas. If nobody send me any, I'll do another file like 'how to seduce a watermellon' again. But this time worse. I'm serious ;)
